Maavee MyLife: Let's go mental (health, that is)!

May is Mental Health and Women's Health Awareness Month

Hello Maavee Community!

How have you been affected by the mental health crisis that much of the world is experiencing right now? There probably is not one of us whose life has not been touched by it in some way. Whether it’s you, a friend or loved one, the effects of this crisis are profound. This topic hits home for me personally as both I and family members have struggled with aspects of mental well-being throughout our lives. I have been so encouraged in recent years with the growing mental health movement and the new research, tools and treatments rapidly becoming commonplace. We are in the beginning of a new era in mental health that offers real hope and new solutions for all of us. More people are talking openly and honestly about their mental health than ever before, including men. Not only that, there are dozens of new, emerging, evidence-based approaches to mental health and well-being that are making a significant difference in people’s lives. Rather than waiting until the mental health crisis becomes worse, Maavee is searching for the best whole-person body-mind-spirit ways to restore emotional balance and build psychological resilience  — in kids, families, companies, and communities. As such, we are thrilled to invite you to the FREE 2024 Mental Health & Well-being Global Summit, which is sure to be powerful.

I admit that this newsletter is getting longer, but we have more to say. So we ask you to give us feedback with the one-click poll included below. Plus, we have just opened this publication up to the masses, so please do share it on socials or with specific people, to help us expand our community of well-seekers.

Be well,
Frank, Founder & Chief Wellness Junkie

🍜 Noodle on this…

What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.

Glenn Close

Glenda Veronica "Glenn" Close (born March 19, 1947) is an American actress. In a career spanning five decades, she has garnered three Tony Awards, three Emmy Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. She has been nominated eight times for an Academy Award and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. In 2019, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

😂 On the lighter side of wellness

The struggle is real. That phrase has taken on comically hyperbolic meaning in today’s vernacular, a joke thrown off when your Internet goes out for a minute. But the truth is, the struggle IS real. We still haven’t fully processed the isolation and pain of being locked up in our houses for almost a year during COVID, and suddenly eggs seem to cost a lot of money at the supermarket (with, I’m sure, none of the increased profits going back to those traumatized chickens). May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s be kind to ourselves.  Extending that kindness to others feels like a good idea, too. Beyonce once told us to “Listen” and that feels like a good word to unite us this month. Let’s listen to each other. Talk less. Try to hear ourselves, truly hear what we need for peace and contentment. Wishing each of you better mental health (and cheaper eggs) as this year continues.

Another important trend on the mental health front is that of men. This accelerating cultural shift “from manning up to opening up” finally gives men permission to be in touch with their emotions. This historically taboo act makes us less expressive than our female counterparts. Times are changing for guys, but there is more work to be done. Come on, guys, we’re better than that, right? It’s okay to admit that we have feelings and to actually express them — this makes us better, stronger men. Hopefully soon, all men of all sexualities will be giving each other a real hug instead of that bro-handshake-shoulder-bump-moshpit-chest-jump thing we do. You know you just really want to hug your bro, bro! We can do it!

And for the ladies, there is no shortage of great awareness building, sharing, and action to take this Women’s Health Month. This topic is being taken quite seriously these days as it goes without saying that women have unique needs. As such one of the fastest growing areas of innovation is in women’s health and femtech. We don’t need Barbra Streisand to tell us that we need to focus on equal care, access, and science for everyone.

🧠 Brand Spotlight: Prepare Your Mind

PYM (a.k.a. Prepare Your Mind), was founded by Zak Williams and his wife Olivia June, not longer after Zak lost his beloved, Oscar-winning father, Robin Williams, to suicide. Zak and Olivia founded PYM with the mission to provide safe, natural and effective mental hygiene products, promote self-care, and end the stigma around mental health. Maavee can’t think of a more important challenge to tackle, and we’re so proud to be bedfellows with this great brand and Team Williams. Be sure to check out their products, designed to produce the naturally-occurring neurotransmitters that help you feel like yourself again. And Maavee sends the most loving and revered “nanu nanu” to one of the all-time greats! And BTW, Zak will be leading a session at the Mental Health & Well-being Global Summit this month, so please do register here today.

👋🏽 Welcome to the Maavee Market

We are excited to announce some new releases from existing brands like the Libido Gummies from ASYSTEM and the Extra Strength Brain Boost Gummies from Mojo. Since Maavee started, our founder, Frank Ricciardi, has been obsessed with bringing Crossrope into the market (he swears by it) and we are thrilled to finally welcome them! Other new family members include Jibby Coffee for a supercharged mind and body, Parrotfish for an elevated and plastic-free, self-care experience, and Anact (literally meaning "An Act" of kindness or goodwill) that is changing the textile industry for the better. Have suggestions for us, we would love to know what great solutions should be in the market. Click here to drop us your suggestions please!
