Maavee MyLife: September Transitions šŸ

Transition anxiety, mushrooms, going organic, yoga and more!

In partnership with

Hello Maavee Community!

September means business. For students, it’s back to school, and for adults, it’s time to buckle down at work after faking it through most of August — don’t worry, nobody noticed! Maybe we call it 'fall' because we fall back into reality after a summer of folly and escape. But with transition often comes anxiety. There’s no need to stress about it — it’s the rise and fall, the to and from, the rhythm of life, as it were, that makes life interesting. Don’t underestimate the importance of these transitions, which fuel our cycles of life. And remember, you’re not alone as the temps drop, the workload increases, and we barrel into autumn together. Change is good and brings opportunities and growth.

Enjoy and be well,
Frank, Founder & Chief Wellness Junkie

šŸœ Noodle on this…

ā

Wine is the divine juice of September.

Voltaire

FranƧois-Marie Arouet (21 November 1694 ā€“ 30 May 1778), known by his nom de plume (pen name) M. de Voltaire was a French Enlightenment writer, philosopher, satirist, and historian known for his wit, criticism of slavery, and support of freedom.

šŸ˜– Transition anxiety?

The elephant in the room, as they say, is the U.S. Presidential election. Among other things, it’s a transition with a capital 'T' and is wrought with anxiety. We respect you too much to try summing up how to handle the anxiety of the current political climate. So we’re just going to say: keep breathing (maybe with the Komuso Shift šŸŒ¬ļø), grab an oar (or a Retrospec kayak šŸ›¶) and let’s row together the best we can, or just have some of that divine juice of September that Voltaire suggests!

Check out these other options in the Maavee app: find a coach, guide, or therapist; donate money to charity; or volunteer to lend a hand (actually an eye, in this case…to a vision-impaired human when they need a little help). Both talking it out and giving back make you feel better. That was easy!

Finally, how we consume news has a direct impact on anxiety levels. That’s why we love Curio. It’s journalism, narrated. Cut through the noise and listen šŸ‘‚ (literally) to relevant news and thoughtful insights from top publications. There’s something strangely soothing about Gillian Anderson reading you an FT article. Or here’s another option: sign up for the 1440 Newsletter.šŸ‘‡ If you haven’t picked up on it, we are big fans of legit journalism!

šŸ™Œ It’s on!

September is National Mushroom Month, and not in the ā€œmagic mushroomā€ sense, but rather the Mayo Clinic-wants-you-to-know-about-the-many-health-benefits-of-mushrooms sense. They’re one of the most nutrient-rich foods out there, containing a shit-ton (surely a scientific term) of vitamins and other goodness…and they’re incredibly diverse for cooking. They’re also an excellent source for puns: we maitake a moment to trumpet the morel of this story, but we don’t want to shiitake you by just putting a button on things, enoki-dokey? 🤣

Logically then, it’s also National Organic Month. The word ā€œorganicā€ is slung around so often these days that it’s easy to lose sight of its simple meaning: foods produced without chemical fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides. I mean, who can’t get onboard with that? While it can be more costly, it is healthier for us and for our planet. šŸŒ

Finally, what would a month filled with transitions be without a bit of yoga. Thankfully, it’s also National Yoga Awareness Month! The world tends to be split into two types of people: those who love yoga, and those who dislike those who love yoga. If you aren’t a regular yoga-head, give it a try — it really is helpful in so many ways. As always, there are resources in the Maavee app to kickstart your practice. You only need 5-20 minutes out of your day, and you don’t need to be Gumby. Plus, if it’s a strain in the beginning, simply revert to Child’s Pose, which is basically like sleeping! (Side bar: Speaking of sleep, here’s a personal story at the intersection of technology, science and diagnosis.) So, let’s celebrate the downward-facing dog days of September together! 🧘

šŸ„ Hello, Hodgins Harvest

They’re one of the only companies in the USA making mushroom supplements spore-to-shelf, with the whole process in-house. They’re for sure one of our favorite artisanal partners.
